Our Story

How it all started...

FBCH's history predates its official charter in 1945. In the late 1930s, Rev. W. H. Pangle of McPheeter's Bend Baptist Church had a vision for a Southern Baptist church in Church Hill. Through his efforts and the efforts of the people of McPheeter's Bend Baptist Church, a new mission was started in Church Hill.

For the first few months of the new mission's existence, those attending met in the old Church Hill Sweet Shop, as it would still be some time before they had a church building of their own. Later, the meeting location was moved to an old building that was the town's pool hall. Eventually, the original sancutary was completed, and the mission would have place to call home. Come July 22, 1945, the mission was officially chartered and became the First Baptist Church of Church Hill.

Expanding the vision...

Over the years, FBCH would continue to grow and expand. Soon, it would outgrow its original sanctuary. By 1962, all new facilities were needed to accommodate the expansion. Ground was broken for a new church building. This would move FBCH to the location it is today. The new property itself would steadily grow over the years, receiving additions such as an educational wing, an activities building, an improved sanctuary, and much more.

Throughout all this time of growth, FBCH was always continuing to reach out to the wider community in the name of Jesus Christ. We began as a mission, and even today we strive to share that same love for missions that got us our start.

Where we are headed...

We praise God for all that He has done for us over the years as FBCH. He has faithfully led us along our journey and it is only by His goodness and grace that we are where we are today. Because of God's faithfulness in our past, we can look ahead with excitement and anticipation knowing He will continue to lead and guide us well into the future. It's our desire at FBCH to reach our neighbors and nations with the gospel, and we're so thankful for those that God has sent to FBCH to help us on our mission! We have no idea what God is going to do in the days ahead, but we know what He can do and that's enough for us.
