Baptism Matters

What does it truly mean to be baptized, and why does it matter so deeply to our faith? From the banks of the Jordan River where Jesus himself was baptized by John, to the desert road where Philip led the Ethiopian eunuch to faith and immediately into the water, the Word of God is remarkably consistent: baptism by immersion is the method Christ modeled and the early church practiced. But more than method, we discover that baptism is a living picture of the gospel itself. Romans 6 reveals that going down into the water mirrors the burial of our old sinful self, and rising up out of the water pictures the resurrection to new life that Christ won for us. The death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus is not just history we believe in; it is a story we physically re-enact before our church family and the watching world.
